I just had the pleasure of meeting two very cool PR professionals who came in to pitch their services.
I knew within a very short time, that 1) I liked them and 2) they were sharp. And 3) I wanted to work with these guys.
To me, hiring a vendor or service provider is pretty simple: if I get a good vibe, then I’m in.
Of course I do my due diligence and get multiple quotes, but I usually (OK, almost always) end up going with the vendor who I feel a partnership with. It’s really that simple.
I know a lot of you are cringing right now, accusing me of being all “touchy feely”, and lacking all business sense - and that’s OK, because I probably wouldn’t want to do business with you anyway.
I’m not a cut throat, I don’t always look for the cheapest price - that’s just who I am.
I choose to work with people who I trust.
If I’m going to invite you into my family (my business), then be prepared to be treated as such. I’ll have high expectations and I’ll expect you to be honest, straight forward and look out for my best interests.
Now not all families get along and play nice - that’s reality. But in my world, it’s to be expected.
I’m an idealist, remember.
And 95% of the time, these partnerships have worked out. When they haven’t, it’s a lesson learned - and makes me a better qualifier the next time around.
But good vibes still rule.
